District Independencia: German Heritage and Culture

Colonia Independencia is a district of the Guairá Department, in Paraguay, located about 180 km east of Asunción. It has an estimated population of between 20,000 and 25,000 inhabitants, distributed in several rural communities (Compañías). The settlement was founded in 1919 by winegrowers from Baden, Germany.
