Paraguay Rally 2025: A historic start in Itapúa
A sporting spectacle – and a tourist triumph
From August 28 to 31, the Rally Paraguay turned Itapúa into the epicenter of motorsports. Covering more than 333 km, the WRC circus traversed 13 districts around Encarnación – and captivated not only motorsports fans but also tourists. Around 50,000 international visitors arrived, hotel occupancy was nearly 100%, and investments such as the modernization of Encarnación Airport were spurred.

Excitement in the special tests
The rally took drivers through demanding red sand sections (typical for the region), tight corners, and fast sections. Both national stars and international guests fought for thousandths of a second. For the spectators, it was a celebration: the roar of engines, clouds of dust, and spectacular drifts transformed the region into a paradise for rally fans for a weekend.
Ogier triumphs – with a dramatic comeback
Sébastien Ogier prevailed in a turbulent finish – despite suffering a puncture in the early stages. He won by almost 26 seconds and reduced the gap to the championship leader to nine points.
Suspense until the last second
Two days of damaged and difficult stages, coupled with heavy rain on Sunday, made for an unpredictable race.
- Elfyn Evans secured second place – and extended his lead in the overall standings.
- Thierry Neuville dominated the Power Stage and the final “Super Sunday”, taking maximum bonus points – his reward was 3rd place overall.
Local stars shine – Solberg and Zaldívar
In the WRC2 category, Oliver Solberg won, while Matteo Fontana dominated WRC3 – the big surprise of the weekend.
- Diego Domínguez Bejarano, Paraguay's great hope, dazzled with two best times in WRC2 and finished in a creditable fourth place.
- Fau Zaldívar, also Paraguayan, achieved a solid 4th place in WRC2 and climbed onto the podium in WRC2 Challenger – a historic success.
Safety at the center of attention
Along with the excitement of the sport, safety was a key factor. The strong Paraguayan police and army presence was striking, ensuring a smooth running of the race. The stages were generously marked with extensive escape zones, protecting both drivers and spectators. These measures reflected the professional level of the event and contributed decisively to the excellent overall impression.
An emotional closing in a historic setting
The awards ceremony took place at the Jesuit Reductions of Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in an atmospheric setting under the stars. The artistic "Kambuchi" trophies, designed in the Guarani identity, gave the event a special symbolism.
The President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, along with drivers such as Ogier, effusively praised the organization and the enthusiasm of the public.
Conclusion: More than a rally – a national event
The Rally Paraguay 2025 wasn't just the first WRC round in the country – it became a motorsport celebration, a tourism success story, and a stage for international and local heroes. With spectacular action, emotional scenes, and a huge media and public following, it's safe to say: Paraguay has brilliantly earned its place on the world rally map.
